I finished filling out the AMCAS application. It’s done! My statement is completed, my activities all have descriptions, and I’ve had my transcript sent in. Now I just have to wait until June when I can actually submit it. Huzzah!

Here we go again
As of Tuesday, the 2010 AMCAS is now open. And I’ve already started filling it out. The long, long process begins…

The Commonwealth Medical College
I’m really trying to solidify my list of schools, and for the most part I’m satisfied with what I’ve come up with, but I just started looking into The Commonwealth Medical Colllege. It’s a new med school in northeastern Pennsylvania, Scranton to be exact.
Pros: it’s close to the family of my significant other, and it’s [...]

Briefly: AMCAS, SDN, MDapps
First, I caved and finally joined SDN and MDapplicants. I’m not sure how often, if ever, I’ll post there, but at least I now have the option.
Second, I met with one of the physicians in my department, and got some really great advice for working on my personal statement. After that meeting, I spent time [...]

Personal Statement Draft 1 Complete
It’s done! I have a complete draft of my personal statement!
I’ve been working on this essay on and off for almost three weeks, and I couldn’t figure out what to say. It’s not that I had nothing to talk about, it’s that I didn’t know to focus my narrative. I could have gone in any [...]

You can’t always get what you want
An appropriate song for my journey to med school:
You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones.

St. Louis out, Volunteering with patients in
I met with my pre-med advisor last week to go over my list of schools and to get any of his advice for going forward with the application process. My list, at 20 schools, was fine if not too big. I can afford to nix one or two schools, basically.
Sorry, St. Louis U, but of [...]

My list of schools
After a few months of working on a list of schools here and there, I’ve finished my list. As it stands now, I will apply to 20 schools, a bit more than the 16 I did last time. I’ve tried to be wiser when it comes to choosing schools than I was in 2007, by [...]

Next step: Volunteering
I think I’m on track to improve most things about my application from last year. I’m taking an undergrad class (biochemistry/cell-bio) to raise my GPA (especially my BCPM, which could be higher). I’m working in a hospital. I’m doing research that is both interesting and has the potential for long-term patient benefit. Likely, I will [...]

Where I want to be in one year
A year ago, I had my first (of 4) interviews at SUNY Downstate. It was an overcast day, my interviewer seemed very preoccupied, and although I had nothing to compare the experience to, I didn’t really like it. The facilities were very outdated, and our student tourguides didn’t convince me that they themselves liked attending [...]
